Would you believe it!?
We have been shooting weddings for almost 10 years and there are some things we have seen that would make your toes curl ! I wanted to write this blog to help anyone looking to choose the perfect suppliers...maybe after reading these couple of stories from very recent weddings you will add a few new questions to your list when you meet your potential suppliers...
Ever seen a photographer with a beer in one hand and a camera in the other?! Its true! Seeing this made me want to scream! Like wedding photographers don't already get a bad enough reputation as it is with all the 'look this ways' and 'say cheese' shebang! (picture for illustration purposes only, not from either of the weddings being referred to)
It was unbelievable and to make matters worse the 'photographer' continued to shoot 'one-handed' while holding his half-drunk pint!!! I am serious! I was disgusted! As a wedding film maker, we get to witness quite a wide range of other photographers in action and it is eye opening! To be fair, there are some crackers out there, however some brides choose their photographer primarily as they are supposedly 'reportage' in style and then you witness them getting the couple to do weird things like jump in the air or hug a tree or anything else you would never usually see them do! Cringe!! If the staged shots are what you want, great and no reason why any photographer won't do them for you, however, if this is how your photographer prefers to shoot then you are not likely to get great reportage images...its a totally different style.
When making films at weddings we often get asked by the photographer 'do you want to do anything with them now?'....the answer is always 'no', we are there to capture their wedding day, all the moments, the movements, the expressions, the voices, the music, everything that is so easily forgotten. We are not there to stage anything that a layman may think 'would make a good shot'...we are there to represent their day in an honest way.
PLEASE take the time to ask simple questions, don't take any chances, this is YOUR day! (AND YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY!)
A week or so ago, we were shooting a wedding fairly locally and witnessed a disaster! The bride was in tears - on her wedding day!!! This is the worst thing that could possibly happen, no bride should ever cry anything other than happy tears on her big day. The venue dresser had made a massive mistake and was probably the worst i have ever witnessed! All the table centres were wrong - she was given birdcages instead of mini trees, the top table had no swag and all the linens were creased everywhere! The rest of the day ran almost 2 hours late while the venue dressers had to return to try and remedy the problem. This was of no consolation to the bride who was so disappointed and could not believe what had happened!
Again, please take the time to ensure you have chosen a company who has a great reputation...do your homework!
There are so many new companies opening up all over the place professing to know the wedding industry backwards and inside out - promising you all kinds of things to get your booking. It is a minefield out there! We are here to help!
At H2 photography, we pride ourselves on our reputation from past customers and venue referrals...some people pay their way in to certain places and get 'sponsored' likes etc through Facebook. We don't! We are here to help and share our vast knowledge about weddings and suppliers with any couple out there. We will always steer you in the right direction and have a handful of trusted suppliers we would suggest for all different budgets (none of which benefit us financially to refer to). If you have any questions, please do get in touch...we want to make sure your day goes as smoothly as possible.
